Edit Fond Memories of Victoria Road

Victoria Road was always a wonderful shopping area.
My Mother lived in Toryglen and when I used to come home from the States to visit her I always looked forward to giung to Victoria Road.
I have not been home since she passed away in 1998 but during the 70's to late 90's it was wonderful.
There used to be a lovely store on the right hand side going towards the park and I think it was called Spiers they had a lovely tearoom and lovely fancy cakes. They carried lots of nice things and I would always shop there to take some gifts back to my family and friends in America.
You did not have to go into the city because Victoria Road had so many nice shops.
There was a small cafe on the left hand side just along from Calder St and a very nice gentleman and his daughter ran it.
I guess it had been in the family for many years and I used to tell them they had the best coffee I had ever tasted so I always visited them when I was home. The calder St Baths were wonderfull and I used to go and swim there.Everyone was so friendly and I used to love all the Red Sandstone Buildings and I would go for walks with my family and friends in Victoria Park. There used to be a little bus that would take you from Toryglen to The Supermarket I cant remember the name of it.This was before Asda Opened in Toryglen.Victoria Road has some of the best Butchere Shops and Fishmongers and Fruit Shops everything was always no nice and Fresh and the Storekeepers wer just as nice as they could be, I could go on and on here. I know thing change with times but I am so glad I have these fond memories.....Isabel Powell Soperton Georgia U.S.A.Please excuse some of the Typo Errors. Thank You
